Herbal Medication

Herbal medication is essential in the treatment of skin conditions as it addresses the root causes of skin imbalances, like heat, dampness, blood stasis, and deficiency.
Herbs For Skin Treatment
- Clear heat and toxins to reduce inflammation, redness and itching that is common in acne, eczema and hives.
- Remove dampness to improve the skin’s healing abilities and relieve weeping or sticky skin lesions.
- Enhance Qi and blood circulation to promote healing.
- Nourish the blood and Yin to restore moisture and improve skin texture, especially for eczema and psoriasis patients with dry skin.
Acupuncture

Thin needles are inserted at specific acupoints on the body to regulate Qi flow and restore balance in the body, mentally and physically, to enhance recovery. Acupuncture is an effective skin treatment offering symptomatic relief while addressing underlying imbalances contributing to the condition.
Acupuncture For Skin Treatment
- Enhances Qi and blood flow to the skin to nourish the skin cells and support regeneration.
- Regulate the immune system to reduce inflammation in patients with acne, eczema, psoriasis and hives. This helps relieve itching and skin redness. 1
- Manage mood and stress to reduce the frequency of stress-induced eczema, psoriasis and acne flare-ups. 2
- Stimulates collagen production to aid tissue repair in damaged skin, preventing scarring from acne, eczema or psoriasis wounds. 3
Cupping

Cupping is a technique that uses glass cups and heat to create suction on the body. This suction stimulates Qi and blood flow, removing internal heat and toxins to promote healing.
Cupping For Skin Treatment
- Enhance detoxification by stimulating the lymphatic system. This clears toxins and pathogens that cause skin flare-ups. 4
- Increase blood flow to the affected area to nourish the skin, support skin repair and reduce inflammation.
- Reduce heat and remove toxins that cause inflammation, redness and pus-filled lesions found in acne and psoriasis. Cupping is especially effective in drawing out toxins and releasing heat trapped in deeper layers of the skin.
Guasha

This technique involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool to tone facial muscles, reduce swelling and improve circulation, enhancing skin health and complexion.
Guasha For Skin Treatment
- Improve blood and Qi circulation to the skin surface, boosting the skin’s natural healing abilities. 5
- Enhances lymphatic flow and drainage to eliminate toxins, fluids, and waste that contribute to puffiness, acne, dullness and skin irritation.
- Promotes balance by clearing excess heat and dampness, helping to calm inflammation
Bloodletting

Bloodletting involves prickling the skin with small needles to release a small amount of blood to eliminate heat, toxins and stagnation.
Bloodletting For Skin Treatment
- Clear excess heat and inflammation to relieve redness, swelling or inflammatory lesions on the skin that occur in acne, psoriasis and shingles.
- Dispel toxins that often cause breakouts, rashes, or other skin problems.
- Promote smooth Qi and blood flow to relieve skin congestion and support healing.
Electro-Lymphatic Therapy

A gentle and non-invasive technique that stimulates proper flow and drainage of the lymphatic system. A well-functioning lymphatic system supports skin regeneration and reduces inflammation to promote a clearer, healthier complexion. 6
Benefits of Good Lymphatic Flow & Drainage
- Efficiently removes metabolic waste, toxins and dead cells, preventing skin dullness, congestion and acne breakouts. 7
- Reduce fluid retention to minimise swelling and puffiness, revealing firmer, refreshed skin with a smoother appearance.
- Regulate immune response to lower the risk of skin infections and irritations, reducing flare-up frequency in eczema and hives patients caused by allergens. 8
- Reduce inflammation to calm the skin and reduce redness and irritation. 9
- Delivers nutrients, oxygen and immune cells to the skin efficiently, promoting skin healing and regeneration. 10
Cell Pro Therapy

Delivers reducing electrons into the body to strengthen our natural self-defence power, promoting blood circulation and cellular metabolism while combating oxidative stress. Reducing electrons neutralises harmful free radicals that can contribute to premature ageing, inflammation, and various skin disorders. 11
Benefits of Neutralising Free Radicals
- Protect skin cells from oxidative stress, potentially reducing the visible signs of ageing. 12
- Enhance cellular regeneration for healing and skin recovery. 13
- Reduce inflammation to relieve redness and itching. 14
- Enhance circulation for efficient delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin, while aiding the removal of metabolic waste. This supports the skin’s vitality and complexion. 15
- Support the immune system to help prevent allergic reactions and skin sensitivity. 16
- Balance the autonomic nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety which are common triggers for skin conditions like acne, eczema and psoriasis. 17

Hear From Our Patients
Justine Tan
Came to Oriental Remedies to address my hormonal acne issues & realised that I had other issues related to my hormonal imbalances…
Was seen by Physician Low who was very insightful & patient, offering good advice on how to address the issues (i.e. dampness in body). Went for electro-lymphatic drainage (ELT) treatment & it has helped my body tremendously! I no longer have any hormonal acne & the overall occurrence of acne has significantly reduced 🙂
The staff at Oriental Remedies are always helpful, smiling whenever I enter & promptly ushering me to my treatment & consultation. Banu has consistently recognised me & all other patients when we enter, promptly setting up our appointments.
The clinic is always clean & well air-conditioned, with staff offering water & drinks while you wait as they prepare your medication.
Overall, great clinic! Changed my perspective of clinics which offer TCM & acupuncture & I always look forward to my sessions here!

Had been experiencing acne issue since Sep last year. After checking reviews across many TCM, finally decided to go there for consultation. Physician Low is good at this aspect, my acne issue almost solved after 2 months. Now am still following her for female period issue. Would recommend to friends definitely!

I have been suffering from eczema for a while and recently received treatment at Oriental Remedies, Jurong East under the care of Physician Poh. I underwent Electro-Lymphatic Therapy (ELT) and Cell Pro Therapy( CPT) .
The treatments have been highly effective in managing my condition. I noticed significant improvements in my skin’s appearance and overall comfort shortly after beginning the therapy. Physician Poh was extremely professional and attentive throughout the process, ensuring that I was comfortable and well-informed about each step of the treatment.
I highly recommend Oriental Remedies Clinic and Physician Poh to anyone seeking effective eczema treatment.

Got to know this clinic by another eczema patient. This clinic is kinda advance, tcm with technology treatment like ELT and negative ion which is not commonly seen. I have chronic eczema for many years but Phy Foo diagnosed me eczema with psoriasis .. my psoriasis and eczema improved after 1.5mth.. Their staff Banu and therapist Kenji Phy Foo are very friendly ,warming and thoughtful for patient. Worth to go. Highly recommended..

I was diagnosed with hives, eczema and recurring UTI condition in November 2023. Went to see a dermatologist and urologist who prescribed steroid cream, antihistamine and antibiotics to manage the conditions. My conditions did not improve, and was asked to increase the medicine dosage. I did not want to be dependent on long term chemical drugs and sought for alternative treatment.
I came across positive reviews of Oriental Remedies and sought treatment at their clinic in Jurong East. I saw Physician Foo and Therapist Jeff, who have helped to manage my condition through a combination of TCM herbs, ELT and CPT. The treatment has been very effective for me, and I no longer suffer from these medical conditions.
The entire course of treatment administered from Physician Foo and Jeff was done professionally, effectively and they are both very skillful. Through their care, they have helped me get back to normal. The counter staff (Joan) at the clinic is professional and efficient, and all the counter staff have made the entire client experience hassle free. The ability of the care staff and counter staff to communicate in English is a plus point for me. I highly recommend a visit to the clinic, if like me, you have sought Western treatment and was unable to find relief from your medical conditions. Keep an open mind and consider alternative treatment with Oriental Remedies, which has worked very well for me.

I had shoulder stiffness and back pain for around one month, which did not get better even after I changed pillow. It’s quite annoying as the discomfort was constant, so I decided to find a TCM for a cupping therapy. After checking a while on the google, I found the Oriental Remedies are quite highly rated online and then decided to have a try. Since my girlfriend also had some back pain, so we went together.
The clinic is quite small but very tidy and clean. There was around 10-30 min consultation before the treatment, which I think very highly of, because the physicians (therapists) are very caring. The consultation is very detailed, including the water drinking amount, exercise, stress, sleeping quality, and even dream and stool… The consultant also checked carefully the tongue, the pulse, and the face, and then suggested what treatment we should get.
I got fire cupping the first time I visited there, which was an amazing experience. Firstly, it felt very relax and released during cupping. The warmth from the fire cup kind of chased away the stiffness and cold air trapped inside the back, the shoulder and neck. More importantly, the pain kind of immediately became less after the cupping finished, and the next morning the pain almost disappeared. The cupping therapy here is much better than the cupping therapy I got before in the other clinic which used vacuum cupping.
After the cupping, the doctors also gave me a bottle of medicines for 1-2 weeks amount for regulating the whole body and curing the pimples at the back of my ears (the physician noticed during consultation).
The back pain has gone away after my first time visit there, but I still went there several times again later for the pimples. They would kindly discuss with us about the next appointment time, which is quite appreciated. After taking the Chinese medicine for around two months, the skin at the back the ear has also been much improved. Now I have stopped the medicine, while still taking the doctors’ suggestions.
I would still consider to seek for help from Oriental Remedies regarding the health issue in the future, and I would highly recommend this TCM.

Suffering from cystic acne had been my long-drawn agony. Despite going to the doctors for treatment, the problem did not go away. Hence, it greatly affected my mood and self-confidence when people asked me about my skin problem.
With encouragement from my relative, I decided to look for alternative treatment, i.e. TCM. I was sceptical initially and the healing process takes time, however, I decided to go for it as I was desperate for a cure.
The treatment journey with Physician Foo was pleasant. She is cheerful and amiable, and always greeted me with a warm welcome. With her precise diagnosis and prescription of medicine, coupled with a change in diet, I can see huge improvements within 2-3 months. My skin started to clear up and the scars have also lightened. Thank you, Physician Foo, for reclaiming my confidence!

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take for my skin to improve with TCM treatment?
The recovery period varies for different individuals. It depends on the severity of your skin condition, lifestyle and eating habits, environment, frequency of treatment, as well as body sensitivity to TCM treatments.
Generally, patients may begin to see some improvement within a few weeks for mild conditions. For chronic or severe conditions like eczema or psoriasis, treatment may take 3-6 months before significant improvements can be observed.
TCM emphasises improving your general constitution and addressing the root cause of the issue, so while it can take time to see improvement, our treatment aims to provide you with long-lasting results.
Can TCM help with the itching and inflammation of eczema?
Yes, TCM can help alleviate the itching and inflammation associated with eczema. In TCM, eczema often stems from internal imbalances, such as dampness, heat, or wind, combined with a weakened immune system. To address this, TCM physicians commonly use herbs that clear heat and dampness, alongside acupuncture, to reduce inflammation, soothe the skin, and relieve itching.
For patients with chronic inflammation, Electro-Lymphatic Therapy (ELT) may also be beneficial. By promoting better lymphatic flow and drainage, ELT helps reduce inflammation, leading to calmer skin, less redness, and decreased irritation.
Will my skin condition come back after treatment?
Whether the condition recurs depends on whether the underlying imbalance has been fully addressed. Additionally, lifestyle changes or triggers can contribute to a relapse. In TCM, we view health and wellness as an ongoing journey, emphasising prevention, symptom relief, and treating the root cause of any condition.
To prevent recurrence, it is essential to maintain a balanced diet, manage stress, and follow the lifestyle changes recommended by your TCM physician. If you notice early signs of recurrence, scheduling a consultation for prompt treatment is key to keeping the condition under control.
Is my diet causing acne breakouts/eczema flare-ups?
Diet plays a significant role in skin health, and it may be contributing to your breakouts and flare-ups. Excessive consumption of spicy, greasy, or highly processed foods can lead to an accumulation of dampness and heat, which can trigger skin conditions like acne and eczema. On the other hand, a lack of nourishing foods that support Yin, blood, or the Spleen may weaken the skin’s resilience. While diet is an important factor in skin health, addressing the root cause is essential. It is best to consult a physician for an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan.

Can stress cause my skin problems?
Yes, stress can greatly impact skin health. From a TCM perspective, emotional stress disrupts the flow of Qi and can cause heat or stagnation in the body, which can manifest in the skin. This can worsen conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis. TCM treatments focus on calming the mind, harmonizing Qi flow, and relieving emotional tension to prevent stress from aggravating skin conditions.
Are there any side effects or downtime associated with the treatments?
TCM treatments are typically gentle, with minimal risk of serious side effects. For skin conditions such as eczema or acne, some patients may experience initial flare-ups as the herbs work to expel toxins and pathogens. If this occurs, we recommend staying hydrated and avoiding scratching or picking at the affected areas. Should these flare-ups be more intense than expected or persist for more than a week, please reach out to us for further guidance.
Here are some potential minor side effects you may encounter:
– Acupuncture: You might experience slight soreness or mild bruising at the needle insertion sites. These symptoms are temporary and should subside quickly.
– Herbal Medication: Detox reactions like flare-ups or purging may occur. It is important to follow the dietary guidelines provided and contact us if you feel more discomfort than usual.
– Cupping and Guasha: Some bruising in the treated area is common and typically fades within a week, depending on your body’s circulation.
– Electro-Lymphatic Therapy: After this treatment, you may notice increased thirst, mild lethargy, and more frequent urination. These are normal detox responses as the therapy enhances lymphatic drainage and circulation.
Overall, there is no significant downtime associated with TCM treatments, allowing you to resume your daily activities immediately. Side effects are rare, and treatments are customized to your specific needs to ensure both safety and effectiveness. It is important to always seek treatment from qualified and licensed TCM physicians to ensure the highest standard of care.
Can I claim TCM medical fees from my company and/or insurance company?
There are many flexible work benefits and insurance plans that cover TCM expenses. Please check with your respective HR/company and/or insurance agent for your eligibility.
We will be able to provide supporting documents for your insurance claim but are unable to submit any personal claims on your behalf.
